Meet Janet Joyce
My Story
Over the years I have redesigned my life, digging into what was really important to me. I found ways to support my well-living, enliven my spirit and physical health, and achieve financial freedom. I learned to own my skills and increase my knowledge, using these learnings to fulfil my values of giving and sharing with others. This process brought me joy and strength, along with the motivation and commitment to work with people who want to create change in their lives.
Background
Growing up on the edge of Blenheim nurtured in me curiosity and courage. Surrounded by nature’s lush open spaces, I playfully explored. My own family’s interactions prompted me to notice people’s preferences and styles of connecting. While simultaneously confronting the complexity of community expectations, I hungered to make a meaningful difference. I saw beauty within these relationships, yet I also felt the pain of miscommunication and disconnection. Relationship dynamics and aligning communication still stirs my heart and mind.
How my career unfolded
Along the way to development coaching, I worked in hospitality, policing, offender management, and leadership training. From my ten years of police service as a detective and constable, there's not much I haven’t seen or worked through. In working with high-risk ‘offenders’ as a probation officer, I saw people’s trajectory change and lives transformed through facilitated shifts in perspective. I enjoyed designing and implementing a variety of mental health, wellbeing, and leadership trainings within the Department of Corrections. A change of focus saw me taking on the challenge of supporting ‘compromised’ learners in adult education – coaching to increase their learning ability and personal awareness.
Each job has given me great satisfaction while increasing my awareness of how people function, and my knowledge of how to create meaningful change. Now providing an environment for that change through quality development coaching, my aim is to help people improve their situations - whoever they are and whatever challenges they are facing.
How I coach
I’m allied to both mana-informed and restorative practices, my strength-focused style integrating a range of complementary coaching models, including NLP, CBT, Solution-Focused Brief Intervention, Change Theory and Narrative Approaches. These ways of working are practical yet highly creative, seamlessly combining into tailored solutions for each client.
An NLP master practitioner, I am also accredited in Change Management and have qualifications in Adult Learning, Child Matters, Restorative Justice, and Professional Supervision.
